Have ABC Execs ‘Lost’ Their Minds?

So, I should just start off by saying that I am a very casual viewer of the series Lost. When it started airing back in 2004, I, like many, was intrigued by the original concept and interesting casting. But honestly, by the end of the 2nd season, my interest was waning considerably. It wasn’t for the normal “this show is starting to get boring” type reasons. No, my lack of interest came from frustration. I enjoy twists and turns and surprises just as much as the next couch potato, but come on. Every week it seemed like there was at least two new questions that needed answered, and those explanations rarely came.

What the viewers did get were more questions on top of already unanswered questions. Between the Black Rock, the Dharma Initiative, the Others, the polar bears, the Smoke Monster, and “who is that French lady?”…..it was all just too much for me. Now maybe this means I’m simple minded and have the attention span of your average hyper-active 7-year-old, but I had to admit defeat. J.J. Abrams, I surrender. You’re too clever for the likes of little ol’ me.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t want to know the secrets of the island. I do. Very much so. But, to be honest, I guess I adopted a “wake me when it’s over” kind of attitude. I want to know how it all ends, but my plan for sometime now has been to tune in now and again, loosely follow the plot lines, watch the series finale and call it a day. I know this is cheating, and I have always considered myself a hard-core TV watcher, but like I said….defeated.

Good news: ABC has announced an end to the series. Bad news: the show will not be ending until 2010. 2010?? You’ve got too be kidding me! After the end of this season there will be three more years and almost 50 (that’s 5 -0) more episodes before we get all the answers. Even if you are a massive Lost fan, that does seem excessive, right? Producers of the show say they wanted the public to know that they weren’t “making it up as (they) go along” and have a definite ending planned, which is why the premature announcement of the series end was released.

Well, it’s not like I will be investing an hour of my time in the series every week, and to those of you that do…I tip my TV tray to you.
