Sanjaya Conspiracy? Howard Stern Thinks So.

Howard Stern Sanjaya

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but as most everyone knows, Sanjaya was eliminated last night. But was it just? Howard Stern, who was one of the leaders of the cause doesn’t think so. This morning he opened his radio show with a few thoughts.

I’m not a conspiracy theory guy, but I don’t believe for a minute that Sanjaya was legitimately voted off American Idol, and I don’t mean to be a killjoy, but #1 it was apparent to me when watching the show that Simon knew the whole time that Sanjaya was going home. When Sanjaya was in the bottom three last night already Simon Cowell was celebrating ‘I smell something good happening’…The week before Sanjaya wasn’t even in the bottom three based on our votes, and all of a sudden now he loses. Ah, how did that happen?

Then he went on to say how a listener sent him an email which contained a disclaimer that could cover any vote manipulations that could have gone on in the show.

So someone sent me an email, and I’m going to read this to you, and it’s going to place some doubt in your mind as to whether Sanjaya was legitimitely voted off American Idol. At the end of the show in the small print there is a disclaimer, and I will read it to you. ‘Production will have in place weekly monitoring procedures designed to prevent individuals from unfairly influencing the outcome of the voting by generating significant blocks of votes using technical enhancements. The producers reserve the right to remove any identified power dialing votes.’

Then the accusation:

They eliminated our votes so that they could get rid of this kid. This is a big franchise, a big money maker. You’re talking about big business, a bigger business as you can name…It’s a huge business. It is billions and billions of dollars. It is supporting the entire Fox network right now…Let me tell you something, they cannot be fucked with. I want a full investigation…

Well, of course Howard Stern has to make some noise about this since the loss can be interpreted in some way as a measure of his influence, and that has been brought into question since he moved to satellite radio. I think the movement simply ran its course, and no one really was into it that much anymore. So good luck to Sanjaya. I’m sure he will fade very rapidly into obscurity or be a chronic reality show contestant.

Did Sanjaya Get Voted off of American Idol Justly?
