Dancing with the Stars - Billy Ray Can’t Dance

I’m not sure about this Dancing with the Stars business. You have four couples that can dance, and Billy Ray Cyrus. His partner Karina is doing the best she can, but at the end of the day, Billy can do his “Achy Breaky” dance, and that’s about it. Bless him, he even tried to incorporate it into the couple’s second dance of the evening, a strange version of a mambo. One of the judge’s went so far as to call their first attempt at a foxtrot “crap”, which was pretty accurate.

The issue I am having is this: With the semi-finals next week, wouldn’t it be more fun to see Billy Ray there than, say Ian Ziering? Call it the Sanjaya Syndrome. Oddly, I was one of the viewers of idol that didn’t even want to see young Mr. Malakar in the finals at all. I guess the difference is that if the unthinkable were to happen, and Billy Ray were to win the competition, so what? Unlike American Idol the winners of Dancing simply take their trophies and go home. It is not like we would ever have to see the winner two-step again, past maybe the day after the big win while doing the talk show circuit, unless you catch an upcoming Dancing with the Stars tour, and then it’s your own fault.

On a more positive note, the cutest cutie ever Apolo Anton Ohno and his equally adorable partner Julianne received the top scores of the night.
