And Then There Were Four

The Last American Idol Performances for Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson

Well, another results show of American Idol has come and gone, and with it two more crooners have politely been asked to vacate the premises. This week’s casualties were Phil Stacey (deserved) and Chris Richardson (not). Though I am disappointed to see Chris leave, I confess that I am also pretty excited when I look at the talent left.

A lot has been said about season 6 and its superstar hopefuls. Some feel this year is boring and that without wild-card Sanjaya in the mix, the show has become too predictable. Well, I say that this year’s top four is the most talent filled of the series so far. There’s not a Jasmine Trios or Nikki McKibbin in the bunch. In other words, of the quartet left, none seem like they are there by pure luck or the fact that an entire island (and only that island) is voting for them.

For the first time in a long time, there is not really a clear winner. Sure, it’s hard to imagine a future that doesn’t have Melinda in the finals, but then I would have said the same thing of LaToya London in season 3 or Chris Daughtry of season 5 so nothing should be taken for granted. Unlike those seasons, this year we have 3 (not just 1 or 2) other contestants that deserve to be standing on the stage of the Kodak Theatre in a few weeks.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Who is Most Likely to Be the Next American Idol?
