For reasons I couldn’t quite put my finger on, I was out of sorts all day. Something wasn’t right. Paris still going to jail? Check. Lindsay’s mom still an attention seeking coattail rider? Check. K-Fed still worthless? Check. So why the ominous feeling that something was about to go terribly wrong? I just shook it off, and settled myself in for a little Idol watching.

The first 55 minutes went by as I expected - slowly. We had to sit through two performances and countless footage of the Idols in their hometowns. Then finally with five minutes left in the program, it was time for the big announcement - who was going to the finals with Melinda: Blake or Jordin?

But wait a minute. Why was Ryan giving Jordin her results first? That was strange. Wouldn’t it be more suspenseful to tell Mindy she was going through first, and then let the tension build as the audience waits to see who would be joining her? Unless….No! Surely not! Melinda’s been consistent throughout the competition. She didn’t fall victim to the dreaded “front-runner jinx” that often occurs when there are four remaining singers, and SHE TURNED IT OUT LAST NIGHT!!!

Then it happened. Melinda was told her time was up, and Blake and Jordin would be going to the finals next week. I just sort of stared in a catatonic state at my television. I have visited this unpleasant state of shock only once in recent memory. It involved Jack Nicholson looking up from an Academy Award envelope just over a year ago and uttering the word “Crash” instead of “Brokeback Mountain”.

This is a sad day. Oh, I know Mindy Doo will still have a career. It’s just the principle of the thing. She was undeniably the best singer. She should be at the Kodak competing. I am disappointed, but I will survive. I will find a way to get through this distressing time. I will find joy in something again……Paris is still going to jail, right?
