The Sham of Spending Eternity in Space

James Doohan

Did you know that the highly publicised, space-bound ashes of James Doohan, who played Scotty on Star Trek, came back to earth? I didn’t, and I’m outraged! Granted, I didn’t really follow the story of the particulars of sending ashes into space, but I assumed that it would be like spreading someone’s ashes at their favorite lake or out of the window of an airplane. But, no, ashes that go to space, come back down again.

How do I know this? Because Space Services, the company that organizes this sort of thing, can’t find the rocket holding the ashes that has fallen back down to earth! I don’t know what I thought. I guess I figured they had some mechansim with which to spew the ashes into the universe once up there. Instead they just come back the same way they left. Scotty was beamed up, but not for good.
