I, like a lot of whitebread Americans, love the Phantom of the Opera. This is why I’m happy to report that Andrew Lloyd Webber is working on a sequel which takes place twenty years after the original and in New York. He’s collaborating with Day of the Jackal author, Frederick Forsyth, who penned the novel, The Phantom of Manhattan. It’s the story of Erik (the Phantom) who goes to New York and opens an opera house so that he can see Christine again. She’s become a famous opera star and has a child with Raoul named Pierre.
Webber will not begin working on the project until after his UK reality show, Any Dream Will Do, which is the search for a new Joseph in the show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I gotta hand it to those Brits. They sure know reality shows!
