The Other Side of the Story

Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese

It was a match made in heaven (or maybe hell). Burlesque dancer, Dita Von Teese, and shock rocker, Marilyn Manson, dated for six years and then had a dream wedding in December 2005 in an Irish castle, with Von Teese sporting a deep purple Vivienne Westwood gown. A year later, Von Teese filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Von Teese told Stella Magazine:

I wasn’t supportive of his partying or his relationship with another girl. As much as I loved him I wasn’t going to be part of that.”

She also told Stella that she gave Manson an ultimatum which “didn’t work” and made her “the enemy.”

Now Manson has spoken. With his upcoming album Eat Me, Drink Me being released on June 5, he’s the cover story in the June issue of Spin. Among the issues he cites as being the problems in their marriage were his vampirish lifestyle (”I’m my most creative between 3 and 5 A.M. That’s the way I’ve always been.”) and Von Teese being away three out of four weeks and not satisfying his neediness. According to the article, he began believing her when she said that he lived a bad lifestyle.

But then I realized that what’s wrong about me is right. To play devil’s advocate — but that doesn’t really work, since I’m the devil — people would say that drugs and alcohol wrecked my marriage. But buyer beware. She said she had tolerated the lifestyle because she hoped I would change and threatened to leave if I didn’t. I was sleeping on the couch in my own home. I was no longer supposed to be a rock star. I was someone who had to be apologized for. I wasn’t prepared to be alone. I came out of this naked, a featherless bird. I needed to get my wings back by making this record.

“It’s the old cliché. Marriage changes everything.”

I’m sure he doesn’t have those same problems with his new 19-year-old girlfriend, Thirteen star, Evan Rachel Wood who probably naively worships the ground he walks on. By the way, rumor has it she was one of the contributing factors in the divorce.

Who’s to Blame for the Crumbling of the Marriage?
