Every day some celebrity is apologizing for something or other, and Roseanne Barr is the latest. These are the comments she made on her radio show on April 6th that wound people up:
Never once in my 54 years have I ever once heard a gay or lesbian person who’s politically active say one thing about anything that was not about them. They don’t care about minimum wage, they don’t care about any other group other than their own self because you know, some people say being gay and lesbian is a totally narcissistic thing and sometimes I wonder.
I’ve never heard any of them say anything except for “accept me ‘cause I’m gay.” It’s just, it’s screwed. It’s no different than the evangelicals, it’s the same mindset. They want you to accept Jesus and you guys want us to all believe it’s ok to be gay. And a lot of us, a lot of them, I do, I don’t give a damn who anybody has sex with, as long as they’re not underage and an animal. I don’t give a damn, it’s none of my damn business. I’m just sick of all the divisiveness, it’s not getting any of us anywhere.
She apologized yesterday on her blog saying that she deeply regrets offending gay people. I’m taking Roseanne’s side on this one. I’ve heard her interviewed recently, and she really seems to have evolved into a well-intentioned, caring person. Of course, she’s still outspoken, but there’s nothing wrong with that.
I’m thinking that with the advancement of medicine and the nouveaux sensitive nature of people, celebrity death watches should be replaced with celebrity apology watches.

I too take Roseanne’s side.
She had no reason or need to apologize. Why should somebody apologize for telling the truth? People told me the truth; should I demand an apology from them because I felt bad? Give me a break.
And before anyone says “Don’t knock it until you tried it”, well I used to be it. So I hope people will forgive me for having a say based on real life experience on not on a sheet any politician would read from.
Even while trying to fight for rights for g-people, all they did was laugh. And the narcissism they exhibit is 100% correct. Especially the parades; why fight for those who prefer to flash their body parts to parade watchers, flaunt parade floats containing large balloons shaped like male genitalia… that’s pride? Um, no… All they do is remind their detractors of the sad truths. And they are sad people, right down to the core. As are their evangelical detractors, which are equally guilty of narcissism, but that’s another story…
It is a choice and it’s easy to escape from. And believing in any deity has little to do with it.
