Frankie Abernathy, a housemate on the 2004 season of the Real World who suffered from cystic fibrosis, has died at age 25. Her mother, Abbie Hunter, told MTV that Frankie had a harder-than-usual winter but her death on Saturday was still unexpected.
It was very sudden. It wasn’t something that was expected. She was doing fine, and we really don’t know very much yet. It still was kind of a shock, and it just wasn’t how we figured things would go. It seems like her little body just gave out.
Although she didn’t stay on the Real World for the entire season because of problems with other castmates and because she missed her boyfriend, Abernathy gave a face to cystic fibrosis. “Tomorrow is a privilege, so live today like tomorrow isn’t happening,” she said on one of the episodes.
Services will be held in Blue Springs, Missouri, on Saturday. Rest in peace, Frankie.
