Sheriff Lee Baca is still trying to defend his decision to let Paris Hilton go. He’s told lawmakers that Paris’ condition was life-threatening, and the system didn’t have the resources to take care of her.
She was at a place where we couldn’t fix whatever that medical problem was with the resources we have. We knew this problem was not going to get better. We were placed in a very unusual and awkward position with Ms. Hilton.
“As a sheriff in this county, I’m not going to let any inmate die in this jail.”
Let any inmate die? So, do we have to wait for Larry King tonight to find out exactly what this life-threatening condition was? No, luckily for us, she managed to speak to People Magazine yesterday and sit for some pictures (as well as get hair extensions) on her first day out. Here’s her side of the story as told to People:
I was basically in the fetal position, basically in hysterics.
“The doctors were observing me while I was there. They explained to Sheriff [Lee] Baca that they thought I was having severe anxiety, panic attacks, claustrophobia.”
So Paris had anxiety, panic attacks, and claustrophobia, and the good sheriff let her out so she wouldn’t die? Were they fresh out of sedatives or what? No one else in jail ever suffers from these natural reactions to being locked up? What a bunch of idiots. People like this give California a bad name.
