NBC wants everyone to know, including ABC, that there is no $1 million post-jail interview deal with convict Paris Hilton. NBC News spokeswoman Allison Gollust said yesterday,
We don’t pay for interviews and we’ll never pay for interviews, and I have no interview to confirm.”
A source told the NY Post yesterday that ABC wanted to pay up to $100,000 for the interview, but NBC outbid them with the $1 million payout. Despite Gollust’s inability to confirm the interview, it still could be on, just under wraps and even still under monetary negotiation.
Networks have been known to find ways around paying for inteviews outright, including putting the entertainment division rather than the news division in charge of negotiations.
Don’t you love what the news industry has become? The height of ethics.
