What happens when an iconic board game becomes a tad bit stale? Turn it into a comedy/thriller, get Oscar-nominated Ridley Scott to direct it, and snag the sexiest young Hollywood stars to act in it. The William Morris agency has promised Hasbro the hottest stars in its pool, including possibly Scarlett Johansson and Kirsten Dunst. All this to get to kids interested in Monopoly again.
Unless they make a Monopoly video game that includes Rich Uncle Pennybags literally obliterating all of Atlantic City, I think it’s going to take more than a movie to get kids playing it on a Sunday afternoon.
