Bono has become a member of the non-British honorary knights club, which includes people such as Bob Geldof, Bill Gates, Placido Domingo, Rudolf Giuliani and Steven Spielberg. According to the BBC, there was a small ceremony in Dublin at the British ambassador David Reddaway’s official residence during which a letter by Tony Blair, singing Bono’s praises, was read.
It seems rather low-key for a knighting ceremony. I always thought that the honored one went to Buckingham Palace, saw the Queen. But, no, Bono didn’t even go to England to pick the thing up. They sent it to him along with a letter from Blair! Maybe the journey across the Irish Sea was too long. Just don’t call him Sir Bono. Sirs are only British citizens.
