Just think for minute. If you or I were in jail and came down with some sort of medical issue, we’d be sent to the criminal justice system’s medical facility. Makes sense, right? No, not for privileged Paris Hilton. Her medical problem has given her a get-out-of-jail-free card. Yep, just a little over three full days on the inside, and she’s managed to leave due to the undisclosed illness. At around 2am this morning she was let out with an ankle bracelet under house arrest.

There are differing reports on the confidential condition that prompted the release, one being a rash, and the other severe psychological issues. ET.com reports the skin theory:

Sources close to the Hilton family tell ET the medical reason was actually an extreme rash she developed on her body.”

And TMZ.com, which broke the story, calls nervous breakdown:

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paris Hilton’s medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that’s why she was released early this morning.”

Her release is not without controversy, though. People are speaking out against the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s decision, including Al Sharpton, and rightly so this time. As reported by People.com:

This early release gives all the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released.”

The L.A. City Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo released this statement to TMZ.com:

My office was not advised of this action. We learned of it this morning through news reports, just like everyone else. Had we been provided with the proper notification, we would have opposed the decision on legal grounds.

“News reports indicate that the Sheriff’s Department released Ms. Hilton to house arrest due to a medical condition. This explanation is puzzling. Los Angeles county jail medical facilities are well-equipped to deal with medical situations involving inmates.”

Well, yeah, they could’ve given her a tube of cortisone cream if she had a rash or even sent her off to the system’s mental-health facility, whatever the case may be. But Ms. Hilton gets to go home to her mansion with an ankle bracelet so that she can miraculously get over her health problems. It’s a load of crap, and she joins the ranks of the rich and famous who’ve been excused from the law, like O.J. Simpson and Robert Blake. Granted she didn’t kill anyone, but she could have.
