From Brokeback to Broadway

Jake Gyllenhaal

Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted last week doing a clandestine reading for an upcoming Broadway play, Beau Willimon’s “Farragut North.” It’s based on Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential run. According to the New York Post,

[Gyllenhaal] played a young, idealistic communications director who works for an inspiring, though unorthodox, presidential candidate. During the campaign, his career is done in by more seasoned politicos who thrive on poisonous partisan politics, dirty tricks and back-stabbing.”

He’s reportedly going to decide at the end of the week whether he’s signing on or not. Apparently, it’s all up to him because he was described by a “spy” as “handsome and charming, very compelling in the role.”

Let’s just hope that Jake realizes that the Broadway circle can be a very dangerous place for a Brokeback guy…unless he likes the attention.
