And Katie’s Contract Continues

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

From about 1920 to 1950, there was a concept in Hollywood called the studio system. This basically meant that the large movie studios were entirely self-contained entities from production to distribution. They also locked the talent into long-term contracts so that the actors couldn’t make films with any other studio for a set number of years. Then the government came in and screamed monopoly, and now the studio system is defunct.

Why am I spouting this history lesson, you ask? Well, Tom Cruise appears to have resurrected the studio system for his lovely wife Katie Holmes. Remember how he got the sex scene edited out of screenings of Thank You for Smoking? Well, he’s not going to have to worry about going to all that trouble anymore since he’s making a production company just for Kate. He’ll be able to control every part of the process from writing the scripts to having Scientologists all over the set.

But Tom doesn’t want you to think that this is another way of securing control over his wife. No, it’s just that she hasn’t gotten offered any roles that she likes recently. A source told the Daily Express,

Kate is a little disillusioned with acting at the moment, especially as she’s taken to being a mother so wholeheartedly.”

“She’s not interested by many of the roles she is being offered so Tom has stepped in with some ideas of his own.”

“He has one project he wants both of them to star in and another he will produce with Katie in the lead.”

“He wants to build a whole production company around her.”

Am I exaggerating when I say that Katie made a deal with the Devil? I mean, she really did.
