Piercingly blue-eyed, Irish actor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the star of the new Showtime show, The Tudors, and the Woody Allen tennis film, Match Point, co-starring Scarlett Johansson, has gone to rehab for alcohol. His rep, Meredith O’Sullivan said,

After a non-stop succession of filming, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has entered an alcohol-treatment program. He felt a break was needed to maintain his recovery.

I don’t understand the last sentence. Is he going to rehab just for the break? I guess he’s going for the vacation that doesn’t have alcohol on the menu.

American Idol is not making it easy for me to be a viewer. First Sanjaya suspiciously got voted off, and the fun ended. Now on this week’s special charity night, “Idol Gives Back,” Celine Dion is going to sing with the ghost of Elvis! Idol teased viewers by saying that “two of the biggest stars in musical history come together” for this event, and now TMZ is reporting that Celine Dion was spotted singing “If I Can Dream” with an Elvis impersonator at rehearsals! No, no, don’t worry, it won’t be that distasteful. When show time comes, the impersonator will be replaced with a virtual Elvis! Oh, that’s ok then!

Ukrainian-born actress/model/designer Milla Jovovitch and fiance/director Paul Anderson are expecting their first child in the fall. Jovovitch and Anderson met while Anderson was directing her in the first Resident Evil movie. This will be the third marriage for 31-year-old Jovovich, who was married to producer-director Luc Besson and actor Shawn Andrews, and the first for 42-year-old Anderson. What are the odds for the success of this marriage? I don’t think very good when it involves a 31-year-old marrying for the third time.

Former American Idol contestant and miraculous Oscar-winner for Dreamgirls, Jennifer Hudson, is reportedly getting married. Is it because she’s head-over-heels in love? Not necessarily. It’s because she promised her maintenance-engineer boyfriend of eight years, James Peyton, that she would marry him when her career got off the ground. A source said to the National Enquirer,

James didn’t want to let Jennifer slip away. After she won the Oscar, James reminded her that she promised him they would get married as soon as she got her singing career off the ground.

This reminds me of the 18-year-old Midwestern girls who go on Howard Stern to try out for Playboy and get the gig. They promise to stay true to their boyfriends, Billy or Bobby, back home in Missouri or Ohio, even while starting new lives at the Playboy Mansion with Hef. It doesn’t happen! Well, maybe this is different. Hudson said of Peyton and of picking a mate,

The difference is, why would I pick somebody new when it’s like, ‘You don’t know me. You just see the Jennifer Hudson that’s in Dreamgirls or the Jennifer Hudson from American Idol’

Despite what she says (and it’s not that convincing), the marriage - if it happens - is bound to fail, but Peyton should keep reminding her of the deal so that he can cash in before it’s too late.

Last week, we reported that actress Lindsay Lohan pulled out of the role of Dylan Thomas’ wife in The Best Times of Our Lives, which rumor had it, would have meant an on-screen threesome involving Lohan and Keira Knightley. Variety reported today that beauty Sienna Miller will be taking over Lohan’s role. No word on the status of the steamy scene, but interestingly, the script was written by Knightley’s playwright mother, Sharman Macdonald. If the threesome does get made, keep in mind when watching Knightley that her mother wrote it for her. Yuck!

It’s good to be J.Lo. According to the London Daily Mail, Andrei Melnickenko, a 35-year-old Russian banker worth $5 billion, is paying singer Jennifer Lopez $2 million for a 40-minute gig in London for his wife’s 30th birthday party. That is $50,000 per minute! Only $1.2 million is compensation for the performance, though. The remaining $800,000 will go towards expenses! And I thought Lopez proclaimed that she wasn’t a diva anymore.

UPDATE Joe Francis plead guilty to the criminal contempt charges today, and under the plea deal will have to pay a fine of $5,010 and serve an additional 23 days in jail. Source

Aaron Dyer, the attorney for Girl’s Gone Wild founder Joe Francis, told the News-Herald of Panama City, Fla about Francis’ current plight in jail. According to the attorney, Francis is sharing a cell with a convicted cop killer, Robert Bailey, who is on death row and taunts Francis day and night by yelling, “Girls Gone Wild! Joe Francis! Whoo!” I’m sure it’s completely unbearable for Francis, but the visual I’m getting from this scenario is more pleasurable than all the boob flashes in the world. Also, poor Francis had an anxiety attack recently when he missed the medication cart. You can bet he won’t let that happen again!

Francis is in court right now for criminal contempt charges, but even if he’s released, he will probably be rearrested for bringing drugs and cash into jail.

Former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey seems to be nicely mended since his break-up with ex-wife, singer/actress Jessica Simpson. He’s moved into a new Manhattan condo with Vanessa Minnillo whom he’s been dating for a year. They moved into the new Atelier building on 42nd St. on April 15 during the nor’easter, and like a gentleman, Lachey carried all of the big boxes. A source told People magazine,

Nick carried the huge boxes while Vanessa helped with the small ones. They were soaked.

Why are these well-off people moving their own boxes in a record rainstorm anyway? Haven’t they heard of moving companies?

Reps would not confirm that Minnillo moved into Lachey’s Bel Air home. This appears to be the first step towards babies! 33-year-old Minnillo recently told People magazine that she wants three boys and a girl.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are taking their on-screen relationship past the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. They are teamed up for a new Coen Brothers film, Burn After Reading. I love, love, love the deliciously quirky movies of the Coen Brothers, like The Big Lebowski and Fargo, and as long as they stick to that formula, this one will be great with these two actors. Coen Brothers regular, Francis McDormand, will also star in this black comedy “about a CIA agent who loses the back-up disc of the book he is writing.”

The opening of Saturday Night Live last night was a parody of Sanjaya singing “Something to Talk About” with Scarlett Johansson. It’s really hilarious!

There have been rumors for awhile about an on-screen threesome which would have involved actresses Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightly as two of the three participants, but Lohan has pulled out of The Best Time of Our Lives, the movie about the life of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

An insider tells Life & Style magazine, “She didn’t back out and they (producers) didn’t pull the deal, but there were changes that weren’t to her liking, and that was that.”

Lohan was going to play Thomas’ wife, Caitlin MacNamara. Knightly is playing the poet’s childhood friend.

I know everyone is disappointed that this scene won’t be happening, but maybe someone equally hot will get the role in this film.

When you kill someone, your life gets complicated. Such is the case with singer Brandy who made it official that she won’t be back for another season of America’s Got Talent. Her spokeswoman Courtney Barnes said,

Brandy has enjoyed her association with the program. However, she felt she couldn’t give the new season the attention and commitment it deserved.”

There is something positive in all of this. Sharon Osbourne is taking over her position as a judge. Given a choice between Brandy and Sharon Osbourne, I’ll pick Osbourne any day. Hopefully, she’ll be as entertaining (drunk?) as she was on this episode of the UK’s Xtra Factor with Simon Cowell.

Sanjaya is back in real-life away from American Idol, but now he has to adapt to being ridiculously famous. How’s he doing that? He’s in the process of hiring a bodyguard. I don’t blame the kid. He seems really whimpy - in a puppy-dog sort of way - and I’d worry about him walking around the streets by himself.

A little surprisingly, he says nice things about Simon and feels that he let Simon down.

From the beginning I think that Simon saw potential in me, and when I didn’t fulfill that potential, he was kind of disappointed.

So I just want to say to him that he’s an amazing person, and what he does is awesome. He’s very opinionated, but I learned more from him than anyone else while I was on the show.

Aww, Sanjaya shouldn’t be so hard on himself. Doesn’t he know that Simon didn’t give one damn about him. He should be proud of the frenzy he created, and he’s bound to do great things on The Surreal Life one day.

Today’s theme is…daddies and daughters. Britney apparently is angry at the people who love her the most and therefore pushed her into rehab, namely her former manager Larry Rudolph and her dad, Jamie Spears. We reported recently that Britney and Rudolph were having problems post-rehab and since then she has actually fired him. Most everyone thought that this was a bad idea because he’s been such a positive force in her life. Today the New York Post published an email from Jamie Spears in which he defends Rudolph in all of this.

When Larry Rudolph talked Britney into going into rehab, he was doing what her mother, father and team of professionals with over 100 years of experience knew needed to be done. She was out of control. Larry was the one chosen by the team to roll up his sleeves and deliver the message, to help save her life.

The Spears family would like to publicly apologize to Larry for our daughter’s statements about him over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, she blames him and her family for where she is at today with her kids and career. Larry has always been there for Britney. For this, we will forever be grateful to him.”

Britney’s rep replied with a statement.

I am praying for my father. We have never had a good relationship. It’s sad that all the men that have been in my life do not know how to accept a real woman’s love. I am concentrating on my work and my life right now.”

Then the Post managed to get a couple of other opinions on Britney’s feelings and condition. They found one of her “pals” who attempted to spin everything in such a way that it makes sense (and I think this pal did a good job of it.)

[Britney] had no drugs in her system when she was admitted to Promises - they [tested her] and there was nothing. She was embarrassed she had to go in there when she knew she was suffering from postpartum depression, not a drug or alcohol problem.”

The pal spoke also explained the head-shaving incident.

Britney’s aunt had just died of cancer. She was feeling very guilty because she hadn’t been there with her, she was overwhelmingly depressed and she shaved her head in solidarity.”

And how is Rudolph acting in all of this? Well, the Post found one of his friends to tell you.

Britney obviously has a lot of issues . . . Larry’s trying to lay low and letting her act out, but . . . he doesn’t want to see her wind up like Anna Nicole Smith. He won’t get into a public fight with her - yet. This is about saving her from herself.

Whew, lots of quotes, but they are all so juicy. I agree with Britney’s dad 100% in what he is saying, but why did he feel the need to scream it to the world? Larry Rudolph is a big boy and would have been ok. He had to know that this would set her off and would make her an angry bee. She’s unstable enough as it is. And Britney’s statement about all of the men in her life not being able to “accept a real woman’s love?” That’s just a completely crazy statement. Aren’t reps supposed to make you sound a whole lot better than maybe you are? I wasn’t impressed with the statement Alec Baldwin’s rep put out earlier, and I’m not impressed with this one.
